Can You Master Hitting A Golf Lob Shot?
What is a Golf Lob Shot?
The golf lob shot, although seldom used by golfers, can be a great precision shot. A golf lob shot works when you are trying to make a high shot near the green say about 50 yards or less. Then once you shoot the ball on the green you want it to deaden and not roll away. You will need a lob wedge to make this shot.
The Lob Wedge
The lob wedge comes with various degrees of loft ranging from 58 degrees to 61 degrees. There are even more specialty models that are 62 to 65 degrees of loft. If you are using this club for the first time then you should use a lob wedge which has no greater than 60 degrees of loft. You should also assure that it has a bounce angle of 10 to 13 degrees but do not go below 8 degrees. When the loft club has more bounce angle than the less likely it is to dig into the ground.
How to Make a Golf Lob Shot
You need to remember that balance is very important when making your golf lob shot. You have to keep your weight evenly distributed between both feet. You do not want to be too far back in your stance when hitting the ball. Also you do not want to hit it from too far forward in your stance. When you perform your swing only go about three-quarters through your swing. Do not take a full swing. Your hands lead your swing for this shot so they must stay ahead of the ball.
Impact for the Golf Lob Shot
You have to accelerate your swing when making impact. This is often a mistake that golfers make and do not accelerate but slow down their swing. For some reason this slowing down occurs for many golfers using wedges and this is a mistake. So when you are practicing hitting your golf lob shot make sure you accelerate your swing through impact.
When Should I Try Hitting a Golf Lob Shot?
When you have to have a lot of height and want to stop the ball in its tracks, then the lob shot is what you are looking for. It can be used to clear bunkers or other hazards on the golf course. Only use the lob wedge when you truly need it. Most of the times a golfer finds that a chipping wedge or pitching wedge is more appropriate.
